Can you explain
ARKSP license model?
|
|
ARKSP license model is based on the number of computers
on which you will install ARKSP. Server License means per Front-end Web
Server. Please note that ARKSP
requires Windows Server 2008 running Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 (or) Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 for it to generate reports.

Does ARKSP have a
client application or web interface to generate reports?
|
|
No. ARKSP does not have a web or client application interface to generate reports. ARKSP requires Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 (or) Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 to be installed locally to connect to the SharePoint Server. You may consider using the following method or feature to overcome this situation:
|
a. |
Access ARKSP tool (installed in
SharePoint Server) using a remote desktop software from a remote client
machine. |
|
b. |
Use 'Publish' feature available
in ARKSP to view the reports from a remote client machine. Using the Publish
feature, you can generate reports and publish them to a SharePoint library. The
reports can be generated using 'Quick Reports' (interactive mode) and 'Power
Reports' (schedule mode) features and have them published to the desired
destination SharePoint library. The published reports can be viewed using a web
browser as you view any other SharePoint library contents. |
|
c. |
Use 'E-mail' delivery option
available in ARKSP to e-mail the reports to any user mailbox or a public folder.
The reports can be generated using 'Power Reports' (schedule mode) feature in
ARKSP and have the reports e-mailed to the desired set of users and public
folders. |

Can I connect to
remote SharePoint Server using ARKSP?
|
|
No. ARKSP only connects to local SharePoint, where

Server 2008 with Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 (or) Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 for ARKSP to
function properly.

Where should I
install ARKSP in the SharePoint server farm?
|
|
If you are using SharePoint in a web server farm, please ensure ARKSP is installed in the front-end web server / application server running Windows
SharePoint Services, 64-bit platform for the application to work correctly. For IIS log file based reports in ARKSP, you can install ARKSP in any
one of the front-end servers / application servers in your server farm environment. For STS log file based reports, you must enable usage logging in all
front-end servers for ARKSP to generate the relevant reports for the corresponding web servers.

|
What user account
does ARKSP use while accessing the SQL Server?
|
|
ARKSP will connect to the specified SQL Server based on authentication mode and user credential to manage its own application databases. To connect to SQL Server, ARKSP uses the relevant user accounts based on the authentication mode as listed below:
Windows Authentication: ARKSP uses the currently logged on user account while running Quick Reports (under interactive mode) and uses 'Run As' account while running Power Reports task (run as a scheduled task or using Run Now option) to authenticate the user in SQL Server.
SQL Authentication: ARKSP uses the specified SQL user account and password for running Quick Reports and Power Reports tasks. ARKSP stores the SQL user name and password as a user profile in 'Stored User Names and Passwords' applet for its usage. Read Profile Manager in the application help file for more details.

The application
error log file "ARKSPErrorLog.txt" is gradually increasing in size.
Can I delete it?
|
|
Yes, you may manually delete this error log file when
ARKSP is not running. ARKSP generates an error log file in the Log folder in the
application path (<Application Data Folder>\ARKSP2010).
The error log file tends to increase in size over
a period of time especially if the application meets with frequent error
conditions. The application does an "append" to the error log each time it
runs. This is required for diagnostic purposes during trouble shooting. You may
delete the error log file periodically.

Why do I get
empty value for the 'Disk Size Required for Backup' field in Content Databases
report?
|
|
This is primarily due to insufficient permissions
for the user account to retrieve the 'Disk Size Required for Backup' data. The currently logged on user
(in Quick reports) or the Run As user (in Power Reports ) should have
sufficient permissions to access that data. An application pool account can show the correct
data for the specific web application. If the currently logged on user is an
administrator in both SharePoint server and SQL server, you can
view the exact size for all the web applications.

For how many
days, can I generate Change Log Reports (‘Newly Added Items’, ‘Last
Modified Items’, ‘Last Deleted Items’ and ‘List Activity’) in ARKSP?
|
|
Using ARKSP, you can generate
change log based reports for the maximum duration (days) the change log data is
maintained in the content database. The last date from which log data is
maintained in the content database can be determined as follows:
[Last run time of the timer job corresponding to the web application - Number of
days in Change Log retention settings]
If the number of days or the date range specified exceeds the resultant date,
ARKSP will throw the 'As per the Change Log configuration, << REPORT_NAME
>> report can be generated for << MAXIMUM_DAYS >> days only.
Refer Change Log Reports help section for more information.' message.
If there is no data available in the specified input days / date range, ARKSP
reports the ‘No record found’ message.

|
Why do I get an error while exporting a report to MDB format?
|
|
MDB format export is supported in x86 platform only. Since Microsoft does not ship Microsoft Jet providers in Windows x64 platform (used by ARKSP), MDB export format will not work correctly. You can overcome this limitation by exporting the report to CSV format and re-importing the CSV file manually into MDB format if required.
